Senior Hydrogeologist, San Diego, CA
($110-160K)

Hargis + Associates, Inc. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Program, project, and technical management for: 1) sites currently undergoing environmental investigation and remediation, and 2) locations where groundwater is intended for potable water use (groundwater banking and extraction sites).
  • Prepare well and wellfield designs, including extraction, injection, monitor, and potable water wells.
  • Oversight and monitoring of drilling activities. Conduct lithologic logging and prepare logs.
  • Utilize various software packages to prepare groundwater modeling evaluations and submittals. Oversee and provide direction to subordinates on groundwater modeling efforts.
  • Provide primary interface, feedback and reporting with client contacts, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Preparation of bid documents and construction/procurement specifications.
  • Contracting and oversight of vendors and contractors.
  • In conjunction with the H+A engineering team, oversee remediation system operation and maintenance (O&M) activities.
  • Oversee reporting of O&M compliance/permit monitoring data.
  • Oversee environmental sampling activities (groundwater, soil, and vapor).
  • Prepare project and program cost/schedule updates.
  • Be the primary author on technical reports, tech memos, letters, and other official correspondence.
  • Preparation of cost estimates and regulatory compliance submissions.
  • Through various regulatory agencies, prepare application forms and coordinate receipt of various drilling, construction, and operation permits.
  • Communicate and coordinate with 3rd party landowners. Obtain and comply with access agreements when necessary.
  • Supervise, mentor, and coordinate staff/junior hydrogeologists, interns, and environmental technicians.
  • Comply with all Health and Safety policies; conduct site safety checks/briefings.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal direction in performing most tasks and assignments.
  • Participate and lead marketing, business development, and teaming efforts. Lead author on technical proposals.
  • Representing H+A, periodic attendance at marketing, business development, and networking events.
  • Participate in corporate meetings with key staff from all offices to develop a company-wide approach to operational needs and challenges.

 Requirements:

  • Experience in the design, coordination, and implementation of environmental investigation and remediation programs.
  • S. degree in geology with an emphasis in hydrogeology. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Experience with CA regulations for site investigation and remediation.
  • CA professional geologist (PG) license mandatory.
  • CA Certified Hydrogeologist (CHG) certification preferred. If not in possession of a CA CHG certification, expectation is that the applicant will be pursuing this certification once hired.
  • Knowledge and experience with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Corrective Action (RCRA) and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) projects preferred.
  • Be detail oriented, highly motivated, and an organized team player with a strong focus on client service.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Excellent organizational and sound oral communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license. Travel to temporary assignments and time in the field will be required.
  • US citizenship or legal residency is a requirement for this position.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER, current refresher preferred; training can be provided if necessary.
  • General computer knowledge (Microsoft Office Suite Products, Email); AutoCAD/GIS and other environmental software experience is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to drive, travel and/or perform fieldwork. Some out-of-town fieldwork may require overnight stays.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform the following while conducting field work: stooping/kneeling/crouching, standing for long periods of time, pulling/pushing and lifting equipment and supplies, walking on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and hot/arid conditions.
  • Ability and willingness to work long hours and in proximity to loud noises and hazards (i.e., proximity to moving mechanical parts, drill rigs, pneumatic equipment, moving vehicles).
  • May be required to wear a respirator. Proper training and protective equipment will be provided.
  • Some weekend, holiday, and evening work may be required.
  • H+A is open to a part-time “work from home” schedule.
